Behind the Scenes with the KORE1 Team: Brent Underhill

By Steve Quarles on July 29, 2015 in Inside KORE1

In the staffing industry, it’s easy for someone to say they’re working with your best interests in mind. But you need someone who can walk the talk. Meet Brent Underhill, KORE1’s Director of Recruiting. It’s his job to recruit top tech talent for our clients. Brent joined the KORE1 team four years ago and has been a major contributor to our company’s growth. Below he shares what his typical day looks like and why he loves his job.

What does a typical day look like for you?

On a daily basis I manage a team of Senior Recruiters and Delivery Managers, as well as overseeing our Junior Recruiting Team. These team members work hard to source candidates and build up our pipeline of talent. As new candidates are sourced, I personally screen and interview them, working closely with them and learning about their career goals to make sure we’re finding them the best fit with a great company. I stay in close contact throughout the hiring process and stay in touch even after we’ve officially placed them with a client.

What do you find most rewarding in your job?

It is so rewarding to know I’m helping people grow and improve in their lives. We’re working with top talent who definitely have earned the great new opportunities in their career paths, but to be the person who’s making that connection is exhilarating. It’s also awesome to reconnect a year or two later with candidate we placed and learn about how they have continued to grow their career alongside our client.

What do you love about working with KORE1?

I joined the KORE1 team four years ago when the company was really looking to get off the ground in an entirely new direction. So I came in at the ground level, working directly with our managing partners, and helping to lay the framework for our processes and database. Over these last few years I’ve loved seeing the growth of the company. It’s also been an incredible opportunity to be a direct contributor to our growth and success, rather than being just another number lost in a mass of employees. It’s a great team and I’ve had a lot of fun. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us as we continue to grow.

What would you say to someone entering a career in recruiting?

Perseverance is key. In this industry, you have to take a lot of shots to score. When you first hear about the ratios behind how much work it takes to gain a placement – all the candidates you’ll have to call and screen and submit just to find the perfect fit – it can be really discouraging; it’s really easy to perceive all that work as a 90% failure rate. But in truth, when you keep the big picture in mind, stay positive and keep pushing forward, your potential for success is huge. You learn quickly that you can’t count on one or two placements; you have to keep your pipeline full no matter what, and refuse to let your emotions get the best of you even when things fall through.

If you’re looking for a tech job or are searching for top talent to join your team, don’t hesitate to give our team a call today.
