Ecommerce ERP Staffing for Wholesale Distributors and DTC Brands

KORE1 staffs ecommerce and wholesale ERP talent on contract, contract-to-hire, and direct hire across NetSuite, Acumatica, Business Central, and Prophet 21, covering order-to-cash, EDI, 3PL, and inventory, averaging 17 days to first qualified submit.

The ERP that runs a seller isn’t back-office software. It’s the thing that decides whether the 2pm Amazon order ships tonight or sits allocated against stock already promised to a Target purchase order. Put the wrong consultant on it and available-to-promise starts lying to every channel at once. That’s why brands and distributors staff this apart from their storefront and merchandising teams, and why a resume that says “ERP experience” usually means a general ledger. Different job.

DTC brands, marketplace sellers, and B2B distributors. NetSuite and SuiteCommerce, Acumatica Distribution, Dynamics 365 Business Central, Epicor Prophet 21. Functional leads who can build a pricing tier and a landed cost rule, plus the integration people who keep Shopify, Amazon, EDI, and the 3PL talking to each other.

Illustrative, not a data set. The point is the timing. From mid-October the system is locked, nobody is onboarding a stranger, and the search you start in November lands in February.

Last updated: July 31, 2026

Written for the VP of operations, the controller, or the IT director at a brand or a distributor whose whole business runs through one system, and who has worked out that the system itself is now the thing holding growth back. Maybe you’re moving off QuickBooks and a warehouse spreadsheet. Maybe a retailer just handed you a routing guide and 90 days to comply with it. Maybe the partner rolled off in June and peak is coming. Any of those is a normal week here. What follows is what KORE1 actually staffs across the four platforms that run this market, and how we tell a consultant who has closed a month with marketplace settlements from one who has only seen the demo. If you’re still choosing software rather than hiring for it, our ERP consultant staffing desk covers the wider field.

Why an Ecommerce ERP Hire Isn’t a Storefront Hire

From the outside they look like the same project. They rarely are. Storefront work owns what a shopper sees, the theme, the product page, the checkout, and it belongs to your Shopify developers, your front-end team, and, if you also run stores, your retail IT group. ERP work owns everything that happens in the four seconds after the shopper stops looking.

Margin lives in that half. So does the leakage. The item master and its unit-of-measure conversions. Available-to-promise across three warehouses and a 3PL. Customer-specific price levels, quantity breaks, and the contract pricing your top account negotiated in 2019 that nobody has audited since. Landed cost, so the duty and freight on a container actually reach the item and your margin report stops being fiction. Then the compliance layer, where a late advance ship notice turns into a chargeback and a scorecard ding that costs you the reorder.

The failure we see most often is a kit or bundle SKU that decrements its components twice, which sounds like a minor configuration slip right up until you follow what it does to everything downstream of it. Every reorder point is then wrong by roughly double, purchasing buys against demand that was never real, and nobody catches it until a cycle count in month three. A storefront developer will never find that. A distribution-side functional consultant finds it in an afternoon, because they’ve already been burned by it. Once is enough.

Wholesale changes the shape again. Selling direct is one order flow. Selling direct and into retail means EDI, allowances, deductions, and a completely different set of arguments at month end, which is why we screen for both patterns separately and why our ERP recruiters ask about your channel mix before your tech stack. Same system. Two different jobs.

Four Systems Run Most of This Market

The talent pools barely overlap. A great NetSuite consultant is not a great Prophet 21 consultant, so the first thing we ask is what you’re running, and the second is whether you implemented it three years ago or three months ago.

NetSuitecloud · dtc + b2b

The default for a growing brand that sells everywhere at once and wants finance, inventory, and order management in one place. It usually wins.

  • Item fulfillment, ATP, multi-location, and bin management
  • SuiteCommerce, or headless Shopify wired in through Celigo or Boomi
  • SuiteScript, saved searches, and the marketplace settlement work nobody warns you about

Deeper NetSuite bench on our NetSuite consultant, administrator, and integration specialist desks.

Acumaticadistribution edition

Popular with mid-market distributors who want unlimited users and a real distribution module instead of an accounting package with an inventory bolt-on.

  • Requisitions, replenishment, transfers, and landed cost out of the box
  • Retail-Commerce Edition connectors for Shopify and BigCommerce
  • Customization through the framework, generic inquiries, and REST endpoints

Smaller pool. It skews heavily partner-trained, so we source it by name rather than by keyword.

Business Centraldynamics 365

Fits sellers already living in the Microsoft stack who want warehousing, assembly, and item tracking without an enterprise price tag.

  • Warehouse management, directed put-away, and item tracking by lot or serial
  • AL extensions, Power Platform, and Dataverse integration
  • Commerce and EDI through ISV connectors rather than native modules

Broader Dynamics coverage on our Dynamics 365 consultant desk.

Epicor Prophet 21durable goods

Built for industrial and durable-goods distribution. If you sell fasteners, electrical, plumbing, or industrial supply, you probably already know the name.

  • Counter sales, quotes, special orders, and drop-ship purchasing
  • Rebates, special pricing agreements, and vendor chargebacks
  • DynaChange, SQL reporting, and the middleware API layer

Prophet 21 and Eclipse people are scarce and loyal. More on our Epicor consultant staffing page.

We also staff SAP Business One, Infor CloudSuite Distribution, and the occasional Fishbowl or Cin7 migration. Not listed? Ask. The screen changes, the process doesn’t.

Ecommerce and Wholesale ERP Roles We Fill

Six lanes cover nearly every req that hits this desk. Your titles will differ. The skills won’t.

01
[functional]

Order-to-Cash Functional Consultant

Owns the order from the moment it lands to the moment cash applies. Allocation rules, backorders, partial shipments, returns, and the credit hold that keeps sales calling you. Cash is the point.

02
[inventory]

Inventory & Demand Planning Analyst

Reorder points, safety stock, lead times, and landed cost. The person who decides whether you carry six weeks of a hero SKU or eleven, and can defend the number. Judgment, not a formula.

03
[edi]

EDI & Trading Partner Analyst

Maps, routing guides, and the retailer scorecard behind them, across the purchase orders, acknowledgments, ship notices, and invoices you now trade electronically. Usually the first hire after a big-box account says yes.

04
[integration]

Channel & 3PL Integration Developer

Shopify, Amazon, Faire, and the warehouse on the other end. Celigo, Boomi, Workato, or the hand-built middleware nobody has documented since the developer who wrote it left, which is the version we get called about most often.

05
[finance]

ERP Finance & Revenue Analyst

Marketplace settlements, deductions, chargebacks, sales tax nexus, and the deferred revenue on subscription bundles. Half accountant, half systems person. Rare either way.

06
[program]

ERP Program & Cutover Lead

Owns the plan, the physical inventory, and the go or no-go call the night before you switch systems. Ideally someone who has already lived through one bad cutover. Not a first-timer.

The Four Questions That End Most Screens

Certifications tell you somebody passed a test. They don’t tell you whether that person can hold an order flow together the week before Black Friday. Four questions do most of the sorting for us.

Walk me from the order to the cash. The whole path, out loud, with the documents named. No notes. People who have owned this answer without pausing. Everyone else jumps straight to the invoice and skips the part where inventory gets committed, which is exactly where it usually breaks.

850order in SOallocate 940to 3PL 945shipped 856ASN 810invoice

Those numbers are ASC X12 transaction sets, not jargon we made up. Somebody who has traded them names the ones your retailer requires without being prompted.

Tell me about a chargeback you caused. Nobody wants to answer this, which is why it works. A late ASN, a mislabeled carton, a routing-guide violation on a pallet. The good ones remember the exact deduction and what they changed so it stopped happening.

How did you reconcile your marketplace settlements? Amazon does not pay you the way your sales orders say it should. Fees, reserves, reimbursements, and returns all arrive on a different clock. Candidates who have closed a month with a real settlement file talk about it in a specific, slightly weary way that can’t be faked.

What did you break at go-live? Everybody breaks something. We’re listening for whether they own it, and whether they know the difference between a data problem and a design problem. If the answer is “nothing went wrong,” the search usually ends there. Nobody is that lucky.

Where These Searches Land, and When

Three shapes account for almost every req we open here.

The replatform. You’ve outgrown QuickBooks plus a warehouse spreadsheet plus three connectors held together by one person’s memory. You’ve signed a partner, priced per resource, and worked out that you need somebody in the room who answers to you. Usually a functional lead and one integration developer, nine to fifteen months on contract, and it should start before the partner does.

The post-go-live gap. Hypercare ended, the partner rolled off, and every enhancement now queues behind one exhausted analyst while orders keep landing. Most common call we get. It’s usually contract-to-hire, because no one commits headcount until they’ve watched somebody survive a real close. Fair enough.

The new channel or the new retailer. A big-box account said yes, and now you have a routing guide, an EDI spec, and a compliance date. Or you’re adding a 3PL, or moving to one. These are short and sharp, and they’re the ones where timing bites hardest, since the work has to be built and tested before the freeze and a retailer’s compliance date does not move because your project slipped. For the operations side of that same problem, our supply chain and supply chain IT desks run alongside. If your product is manufactured rather than bought, manufacturing ERP staffing is the closer fit.

Four Ways to Bring the Help In

Each one maps to a different point in the system’s life, and to a different budget line. Pick one.

Why KORE1 for Ecommerce and Wholesale ERP

We’ve staffed enterprise systems talent since 2005, which means we placed a fair number of these people the first time around, when the distributor’s system was a green screen and ecommerce was a catalog with a shopping cart stapled to it. Those consultants are now the ones who can move a business from that world into this one. They’re also the hardest to find on a job board. None of them are looking.

Every submit clears a recruiter-led screen built for the lane, not a keyword match. Functional candidates walk through an order flow. Technical candidates get an integration that failed at 2am and have to say what they’d check first. We ask about chargebacks and settlements on nearly every screen, because those two subjects separate the people who ran the system from the people who watched it. It works almost every time.

We’ll also tell you when a specialist isn’t the answer. If what you actually need is somebody to write the requirements your partner keeps asking for, we’ll say so and point you at our business analyst desk. If the program needs an owner more than it needs another consultant, that’s an ERP implementation project manager, and saying so on the first call is cheaper for everybody than discovering it in month four. Selling you the wrong hire just costs you a quarter you don’t have.

Recruiting is national. Most of this work is remote with travel for cutover and peak, and we scope it that way instead of pretending everyone lives near your warehouse. No relocation games. When you’re ready, reach out and we’ll scope the search against your platform and your channel mix. Want a rate first? Our salary benchmark tool will pull one.

Common Questions About Ecommerce and Wholesale ERP Staffing

What does an ecommerce or wholesale ERP consultant cost in 2026?

Contract ecommerce and wholesale ERP consultants generally bill $75 to $145 an hour in 2026, with EDI and integration specialists at the top of that range and NetSuite functional consultants often lower. Direct hire lands roughly between $105K and $165K for an experienced ERP analyst, higher for a program lead who has run a multi-warehouse cutover. Platform drives price more than title does. Prophet 21 and Acumatica people cost more than their NetSuite equivalents simply because there are fewer of them. Scarcity sets the rate. Our salary benchmark tool will pull a current range for your market before you set the req.

We sell direct and we sell wholesale. Is that one hire or two?

Usually one functional consultant plus one integration person, and the split is about volume rather than about the channels themselves. Direct and wholesale share the same item master and the same inventory, so a good order-to-cash consultant covers both. EDI is the exception. The moment a retailer hands you a routing guide, that becomes its own discipline with its own vocabulary, and it’s the single most common reason a two-person team turns into three.

NetSuite, Acumatica, Business Central, or Prophet 21?

Broadly, NetSuite suits multi-channel brands, Acumatica suits mid-market distributors who want unlimited users, Business Central suits Microsoft shops, and Prophet 21 suits industrial and durable-goods distribution. We don’t sell software, so we’ll give you a straight read and tell you when the platform you’ve picked is going to be expensive to staff. It happens. Once you’re committed, we staff what you landed on. If the decision is still open, the ERP consultant staffing page covers the wider field.

How long does it take to fill one of these roles?

Our average across IT searches is 17 days to first qualified submit. Contract ecommerce ERP roles usually close in two to four weeks, direct hire in four to seven. Prophet 21 and Acumatica searches run longest because the pools are small. The fastest searches name one platform and one problem. The slowest ask for NetSuite, EDI, Shopify, Amazon settlements, and demand planning in one body, which describes a very small group of people nationally, most of whom are mid-project and none of whom are available in October. That person is busy.

When should we start hiring relative to peak season?

Start in Q2 or early Q3 for anything that has to be live before peak. Most sellers freeze changes somewhere between mid-October and early January, and once that freeze is on, a new consultant can’t ship anything and nobody has time to onboard them anyway. A search that starts in November realistically produces working help in February. If peak is already close and something is genuinely broken, contract coverage for the season is the honest answer, not a permanent hire you’ll rush. Plan backward from October.

Can these consultants work remotely?

Yes, with two exceptions worth planning for. Configuration, integration, reporting, and EDI mapping are all browser work, and the qualified pool is national, so a strict on-site requirement narrows your options without improving the outcome. Cutover weekend is different. So is the first physical inventory. Most clients want the functional lead and the program lead on site for those, plus a few days in the warehouse early on so the consultant has actually seen how your pickers work. Good candidates expect that and price it in.

Do you staff the 3PL and WMS side too?

We do, and it’s frequently the same search. Same people, mostly. Warehouse work shows up as an ERP problem right up until the moment somebody looks at the integration, and then it’s a 940 and 945 conversation with a third party in the middle. For NetSuite specifically, our WMS integration consultant desk goes deeper on that layer. For the broader operations org, supply chain staffing covers planners, buyers, and logistics leadership.
