Most of the EBS calls that reach this desk start in one of two ways. Either somebody retired or somebody quit, and in both versions the person who walked out was the only one left in the building who could tell you why the month-end allocation program is scheduled for 4am on a Tuesday.

That is the search. Not a project.

The backdrop moved in 2026. It moved in a direction most hiring plans had not priced in, because Oracle pushed Premier Support on E-Business Suite 12.2 out to at least 2037, its ninth such review since Continuous Innovation began in 2018, while 12.2.15 arrived in 2025 on the usual cadence. No cliff. So the instance you were quietly planning to walk away from turns into something you have to staff properly for another decade, and the bench that can do it thins out a little more every year.

Nobody is hiring an EBS consultant because they love EBS. They are hiring because the close has to happen on the fourth business day.

KORE1 has recruited enterprise applications talent since 2005. Oracle work runs through the ERP consultant staffing desk alongside SAP, Dynamics and NetSuite, with the search side handled by our ERP recruiters, and the wider Oracle bench covered on Oracle staffing. If your roadmap points the other way, Oracle Cloud ERP consultant staffing handles the Fusion side.

Still scoping the req? Our guide to hiring an Oracle EBS consultant works through module and release scoping in detail, and the 2026 ERP consultant hourly rates breakdown prices EBS against NetSuite, SAP and Dynamics work.

Scope of the Seat

Oracle Wrote Half of What You Are Running

Ask a vendor what an EBS consultant needs to know and you get a module list. Financials. Supply Chain. Maybe HRMS.

Modules are the part Oracle ships and documents. Fine. Every mature instance also carries a second layer that behaves like product but is not product, and that layer is where the rate is earned. Custom concurrent programs. Forms personalizations that never made it into a document. An inbound interface staging invoices from a system somebody promised to decommission in 2017, still running, still nobody’s.

Oracle reserves the XX prefix for exactly this, so the custom objects are easy to count and much harder to explain. We have walked into instances with four custom objects and instances with nine hundred. Both were fine. The difference was never the number.

What matters is how much of it anyone can still account for. A consultant reading a customization they can trace to a requirement moves at one speed. The same consultant reading a package with no comments, written by a contractor who left in 2019, moves at about a third of that speed, and your first invoice quietly covers the difference whether or not the requisition ever mentioned there was one.

So the screen has to reach past the module list. That is the whole argument here.

The Custom Top

Six Things Sitting on Top of Standard, Ordered by How Far From It They Sit

An ordinary mature 12.2 instance, drawn against the standard product. Each block starts at the spine, which is Oracle’s code, and reaches right by however far it has travelled from it. The further right, the fewer people on earth can maintain it.

  1. 01 Forms personalization Standard form, altered

A field hidden, defaulted or made mandatory on a form Oracle ships. No file, no repository, no trace outside the instance itself.

    Reversible in an afternoon
  2. 02 BI Publisher template XXAR_STMT.rtf

Standard data source, custom layout. This is the customer statement your finance team actually sends, and the logo on it has been wrong twice.

    Owner sits in finance
  3. 03 Custom concurrent program XXGL_ALLOC_PKG

A PL/SQL package on a schedule, running an allocation nobody could talk the standard engine into. Registered, parameterized, and load-bearing at close.

    Author still on staff
  4. 04 Inbound interface XXAP_INV_STG

Staging table plus a load program, feeding payables from a system that was supposed to be switched off years ago. Error rows go to a mailbox somebody reads on Fridays.

    Built by a vendor, gone
  5. 05 Workflow customization Approval routing, rebuilt

Who approves what, at which amount, in which org. Rebuilt twice since go-live and neither rebuild matched the delegation of authority document.

    Half documented
  6. 06 Custom OA Framework page XXPO_REQ_PAGE

A full custom screen built because Purchasing would not do the thing, extending a standard controller. It breaks on roughly every second patch cycle.

    Nobody can explain it

Five of those six have somebody’s name attached. The sixth does not. That one decides how your next patch cycle goes. When a client tells us their EBS is fragile, they are almost never describing Oracle’s code. They are describing the part of the estate that outlived the person who wrote it, and that is a staffing gap wearing software clothes, which is exactly why the first question on any EBS req we take is what sits on top rather than which modules you happen to have licensed.

Coverage

The Six EBS Seats Clients Ask Us For

Priced separately, screened separately, sourced from pools that barely overlap.

Financials functional consultant

General Ledger, Payables, Receivables, Fixed Assets and Subledger Accounting. Ask them to explain one SLA rule they wrote and why. The answer sorts the stack fast.

Supply Chain & Manufacturing

Inventory, Purchasing, Order Management, Work in Process and Bills of Material. Planning against live production, not a sandbox. Adjacent to manufacturing ERP staffing.

HRMS & Payroll specialist

FastFormula written and maintained, multi-jurisdiction cycles run end to end. Thinnest pool of the six and the only one where a bad hire shows up in employee bank accounts.

EBS technical developer

Forms, PL/SQL, OA Framework, Workflow Builder and BI Publisher. The bench that owns the XX layer. Overlaps with Oracle developer staffing.

Oracle Apps DBA

12.2 online patching, cloning, WebLogic and the AD and TXK utilities. Different person from the developer, different rate, and conflating the two costs you a search. See Oracle DBA staffing.

Techno-functional lead

Reads a customization and a close calendar with equal comfort. Rare, expensive, and the right hire when the estate needs a direction rather than a pair of hands.

What It Costs

The Rate Tracks What You Hand Them the Keys To

Published data for this title is thin and it skews low. ZipRecruiter’s August 2026 figure for an Oracle EBS consultant is $134,195 nationally, which works out near $64.52 hourly, and most of that distribution falls inside a $121,500 to $150,000 band.

Treat that as the floor. Not the market.

Three things move a candidate above it, and years of experience is not one of them. Multi-org and multi-ledger depth is the first. A single-ledger career does not carry across, and people work that out in week three. Payroll is the second. It prices at a premium for the plain reason that the failure mode is public. The third is patching, meaning somebody who has run an online patching cycle against a customized 12.2 instance, watched a worker fail partway through cutover, and can tell you exactly what they did about it at 2am.

Contract rates for that profile run clear of any aggregator average. They should. A close that slips two days costs more than the entire premium.

One budget note. The cheapest version of this hire is a contractor brought in for a fix, released, and then brought back six months later to fix the next thing, and it is only cheap the first time. Every re-entry gets billed at full rate while the same person re-learns the same estate. Our ERP consultant hourly rates guide puts EBS beside NetSuite, SAP and Dynamics if you are pricing across platforms.

How the Search Runs

What We Do With Your Req Before We Source Anything

Same five moves whether it is one Apps DBA for a patch window or a permanent Financials owner.

  1. 01

    Get the digits

Not “R12.” The actual level, 12.1.3 or 12.2.9 or 12.2.15, plus the module. Candidates sort themselves the second they see the numbers, and the shortlist changes completely.

  2. 02

    Count what sits on top

How many custom objects are live, and how many your team can still account for. Twenty minutes with your DBA. It sets the rate and the timeline more than the title does.

  3. 03

Screen on a patch that went wrong

Ask about a cutover that failed. What broke, what they rolled back, how long the instance was down. People who have lived it answer in specifics and a time of day.

  4. 04

Reference the person who used it

A project manager will confirm they hit dates. A controller who closed the books on their configuration will tell you whether it held up in March.

  5. 05

    Fix the handover date first

If somebody is leaving, the overlap window belongs in the offer, not in a hope. We scope knowledge transfer as work with a date on it because the alternative gets billed by the hour later.

Screening

Every EBS Resume Says the Same Eleven Words

Oracle EBS R12. Financials. Supply Chain. Implementation and support. Ten to twenty years.

Nothing on the page tells you whether the person redesigned a chart of accounts or reset passwords beside one. So we stop reading. We ask about a specific object instead.

Pick one customization you inherited. Not one you built. What was it for, who wrote it, and what did you do with it. Strong candidates get concrete immediately, usually with something like a custom aging report that duplicated standard functionality nobody had noticed, and then a sentence about what it cost to retire it. There is an object, a decision, and a consequence.

Weaker answers stay at the module level. Nothing you could point at.

Multi-Org is the second screen, and nothing sorts a shortlist quicker. Hand over a scenario. A user in one operating unit is seeing invoices from another, so where do you look. Anyone reaching for MOAC security profiles and responsibility assignment has actually run a multi-org instance. Anyone who starts by describing a report has worked in one operating unit their whole career, which is fine, but your intercompany reconciliation will find the gap before you do.

One last thing. A candidate who calls every customization a mistake will spend your first quarter proposing a cleanup nobody asked for. The good ones can name a custom object they deliberately left alone, say what it would have cost to remove, and explain why the money was better spent elsewhere. There is a fuller question bank in our ERP consultant interview questions write-up, and the search itself is run by the ERP recruiters desk.

Engagement

Three Ways This Usually Gets Bought

The right one depends almost entirely on whether your Fusion decision is made, deferred, or genuinely undecided.

Most Common

Contract & Contract-to-Hire

Sixteen to twenty weeks suits assessment work. Inventory the custom top, retire what nobody defends, document what stays, and give finance a defensible figure for a future move priced against a tidied estate rather than the one you have now. Bounded work. Real deliverable. End date.

Contract Staffing →

Direct Hire

If the instance is going to be here in 2032 either way, and the close runs through it, this seat is permanent and it pays at the top of the band. Fewer people every year are willing to build a career on this platform. Candidates know. They price accordingly.

What direct hire covers →

Scoped Project Work

You get a crew, a scope on paper, and a delivery date we are accountable for. Fits an upgrade to the current release update pack, a multi-org consolidation, or a remediation push you have to finish before the auditors arrive. Pairs with go-live and hypercare support.

Questions

Common Questions

What does an Oracle EBS consultant actually do day to day?

An Oracle EBS consultant configures modules, maintains the custom objects layered on top of them, and keeps period close, patching and interfaces running on a live instance rather than building a new one.

Most of the week is estate work. A concurrent program that failed overnight, an interface rejecting rows, a flexfield somebody needs opened up before quarter end. Projects happen too. They just sit on top of a support load that never fully goes away.

Does Oracle still support E-Business Suite in 2026?

Yes. Premier Support on EBS 12.2 now runs to at least 2037, with 12.2.15 released in 2025 under Continuous Innovation, so nothing forces a migration date on you.

The commitment gets reviewed annually. Every review since 2018 has added another twelve months. For hiring, what changed is the pitch rather than the platform. You are recruiting into a platform with a decade of committed support instead of one on a countdown, and saying so plainly in the posting widens the pool more than an extra ten thousand dollars would.

What does an Oracle EBS consultant cost?

ZipRecruiter’s national figure for August 2026 is $134,195, near $64.52 hourly, and most of the distribution sits between $121,500 and $150,000. Scoped contract work prices above that.

Payroll and techno-functional upgrade leads sit at the top. Support roles sit at the bottom. The single biggest swing is multi-org exposure, which is why we ask how many operating units you run before quoting anything. Full cross-platform bands are in the ERP consultant hourly rates guide.

Is an Apps DBA the same as an EBS technical consultant?

No. An Apps DBA runs patching, cloning and the application tier. An EBS technical consultant writes PL/SQL, Forms and OA Framework code. Different pools, different rates, and rarely the same person.

Companies conflate them constantly. It costs weeks. A requisition asking for both at one salary reads to candidates as a company that has not scoped the work, so the strongest people in either pool skip it and you end up interviewing whoever was left over after the good ones self-selected out. Need both? Run two searches and say so. We handle them separately through Oracle DBA staffing and Oracle developer staffing.

How fast does an EBS search close?

Seventeen days is our average to a first qualified submit across IT roles. A scoped EBS requisition usually closes in three to seven weeks. Payroll takes longer, sometimes double, because the pool is small.

Naming the release and the module compresses it. Every time. A requisition that says “Oracle EBS consultant” and nothing else takes roughly double and produces a worse shortlist, because sourcing has to guess and candidates have to self-select on incomplete information.

Should we hire for EBS or for the Fusion migration?

Hire for the system running your business today. A permanent Fusion migration lead hired against an undecided date usually leaves around month nine, right after you finish paying to get them productive.

If the migration is funded, dated and staffed, your EBS hire is a steady-state backfill and should be scoped that way. If it is an FY28 conversation, the useful hire is the one who shrinks the estate so that conversation starts from a lower number. Those are different people and different budgets. The Oracle Cloud ERP staffing desk covers the other side when the date is real.

Our only EBS person retires in six months. Who covers it?

Open the search this month and write the first ninety days as a documented handover while the outgoing person is still on payroll. Six months of overlap is an asset. Zero costs roughly triple.

We see this more than any other EBS scenario, and delay is the thing that makes it expensive. With no overlap you are paying a contractor to rebuild two decades of undocumented reasoning out of the tables themselves, plus whatever the previous person happened to leave in a shared drive nobody has opened since. We have run that version more than once. It works. It is not the cheap way.

Send us the release number and the module. We will tell you what the seat costs.

One call, and you get a band for your metro whether or not you hire through us.
