Shopify Developer Staffing Agency for E-Commerce Teams
Your storefront launches in eleven weeks. The Liquid developer you liked has ghosted twice. We’ve been placing Shopify engineers since before Plus was a product tier. Contract, direct hire, or a full pod, KORE1 pulls from a bench we’ve already vetted on the platform itself.

What Is a Shopify Developer Staffing Agency?
A Shopify developer staffing agency does one specific thing. We find, screen, and place engineers who’ve actually shipped on the platform. Not “I watched a Liquid tutorial” developers. Not “I installed the Dawn theme once” contractors. We mean people who’ve migrated a brand to Shopify Plus, wired up checkout extensibility, and debugged a Flow at 2 a.m. on Black Friday.
Maybe forty U.S. firms call themselves Shopify staffing specialists. Most of them source the same Upwork pool you already have access to. KORE1 has been placing engineers out of Irvine for over twenty years. Our Shopify bench grew out of clients who kept asking us to stop sending generalist full-stack folks and start sending people who’d actually touched the ecosystem.
We staff nationwide. A Liquid developer in Austin. A headless Hydrogen team in Brooklyn. A Plus architect who’ll sit in your Irvine office three days a week. Our broader software engineer staffing practice is the main pool, part of KORE1’s wider IT staffing services group. Shopify specialists are the slice of that pool we’ve put through extra platform-specific screening. Every candidate gets a working call with a KORE1 recruiter before their resume reaches your inbox. That’s the entire point.
One thing we see too often. A founder who needs a Plus architect hires a $55/hr Liquid theme developer because the rate looks right. Six months later the replatform is late, every launch window slips, and the contractor is quietly googling “what is a metaobject.” Ability isn’t linear in hourly rate. It’s definitely not flat either.
Shopify Developer Roles We Staff
Our recruiters know the difference between a theme-forker and a Plus architect. They catch the bluffs on the first call.
Shopify Plus Architect
Replatforms, checkout extensibility, Functions, Flow, Scripts (legacy), multi-store org design, B2B catalog setup.
Liquid & Theme Developer
Custom themes, Dawn forks, section groups, metaobjects, storefront performance, page-builder integrations.
Shopify App Developer
Custom public and private apps, Remix + Polaris, App Bridge, embedded admin, billing API, webhook architecture.
Headless & Hydrogen Developer
Hydrogen, Remix, Storefront API, Oxygen hosting, cart hydration, SEO for JS-rendered catalog pages.
Integrations Engineer
NetSuite, Klaviyo, tax and shipping carriers, 3PL fulfillment, subscription platforms, middleware, data sync.
QA & Performance Engineer
Checkout load testing, Core Web Vitals, third-party script audits, A/B harness setup, BFCM readiness.
Why E-Commerce Teams Call KORE1 First
Most ecommerce teams call us for one of three reasons. They’re replatforming to Shopify Plus and need someone who’s actually done it. Their in-house team is spread thin and conversion is slipping. Or they need coverage for a short, hard window. BFCM prep, replatform hypercare, a headless cutover that has to ship before a product drop.
Here’s a specific one. Last September a DTC beauty brand called us in a panic. Their mobile checkout LCP was 4.8 seconds. Year-over-year conversion had dropped eleven points. The head of engineering had resigned two weeks earlier with no replacement lined up. We had a senior Shopify Plus architect on a contract-to-hire the following Tuesday. She rewrote the cart drawer, moved three third-party scripts behind consent, reworked their checkout extensibility, and got mobile LCP under 2.5 seconds by October 14. They didn’t miss a single BFCM day. Revenue was up 18% year over year by the end of Cyber Week.
That’s what the work actually looks like. Not shuffling resumes. Placing someone who lands, ships, and hands off clean. If a staffing firm is sending you three candidates who all look “pretty close,” they haven’t been paying attention to the brief.

Know What Tier You’re Actually Hiring For
Ask a staffing firm for “a Shopify developer” and most will send you the same pool whatever the tier. That’s a problem. The gap between standard Shopify and Shopify Plus isn’t a skill level. It’s a different toolkit.
Standard Shopify developers live in Liquid, custom themes, basic app installs, and maybe one or two private apps. Most bootcamp grads land here. Rates run $50 to $85 an hour on contract.
Plus developers work with Shopify Functions, checkout extensibility, Launchpad, Flow, multi-store org architecture, and B2B catalogs. They know how to wire a metaobject into a Liquid template without breaking the admin. Rates run $95 to $160 an hour. The available pool is maybe a fifth the size of the standard pool.
We keep both benches separate. When you tell us “we need a Shopify developer,” we ask five questions before pulling any names. What tier. What scope. What stack on the edges, meaning headless, apps, or integrations. What the timeline is. And whether this is a fix or a fresh build. Five questions, not fifty.
Engagement Models
Three ways to bring Shopify talent onto your team. Pick the shape that matches the work.
Contract
Weekly hours, project-based. BFCM coverage, replatform windows, headless cutovers, and hypercare sprints. Typically 3 to 6 months with extension options. You pay an hourly rate, we handle W-2 or 1099.
Contract staffing →Direct Hire
Permanent placement with a 90-day replacement guarantee. Salary bands benchmarked against real placements we closed in the last six months. Full vetting includes a technical round and reference calls.
Direct hire →Project / Pod
Scoped SOW, 2 to 6 developers, project manager included. Deliverable-based billing. Best for replatforms, headless builds, and large app projects where you want a team that already works together.
Project pods →

Common Questions
How much does it cost to hire a Shopify developer through KORE1?
Rates are tiered. Standard Liquid and theme work runs $50 to $85 an hour on contract. Shopify Plus architects and headless specialists run $95 to $160 an hour. Direct hire salaries for senior Plus engineers sit between $145K and $195K base depending on market, per placements we closed in the last six months. We send comp benchmarks inside 24 hours of the intake call, drawn from real data, not BLS averages that lag the market.
Plus or standard. Do you actually need a Plus-certified developer?
Not always. If you’re under $1M GMV, running Dawn with a few custom sections, and not doing B2B or checkout extensibility, a strong Liquid developer covers it. You need Plus talent the moment checkout extensibility, Shopify Functions, complex Flow automations, or multi-store org structure enter the brief. The hard case is the middle. Brands between $5M and $15M that have outgrown standard but aren’t ready to pay Plus rates. That’s where the wrong hire stalls things for a year.
Three to five days. Is that really how fast you place?
Yes, for contract roles. Direct hire runs seven to ten business days. Our bench is warm, meaning we’ve talked with most candidates inside the last 90 days. We don’t start sourcing from zero when the phone rings. The clock you’re already running against, the one where a role sits open for six weeks while the JD bounces around Slack, isn’t the same clock we run.
Can one developer handle Liquid plus apps plus integrations, or do you need a team?
For small builds, yes. A senior generalist covers a full Shopify stack for a Series A DTC brand. Once you pass about $10M GMV or add headless, B2B, complex ERP, or heavy tax integrations, the single-person pattern breaks. We’ll flag that in the intake and propose a pod if the scope warrants it, rather than overloading one hire and watching the engagement go sideways.
What about contract-to-hire?
Roughly forty percent of our Shopify contract placements convert to direct hire inside six months. Both sides get to test fit. There’s a standard conversion fee scaled by tenure, written into the SOW so nothing gets awkward at the finish line. For founders who’ve been burned by “tried to convert, no path” agency deals, this is the clean version.
Do you staff Hydrogen and headless builds too?
Yes. Pool is tighter. Strong Hydrogen and Remix developers with production Shopify experience are rare, and most of what the market labels a headless dev is a React developer who’s read the Storefront API docs once. We vet for shipped production headless builds, including cache strategy, hydration pattern, SEO for JS-rendered PLPs, and cart state. Four to six business days for first candidates on headless roles.
What if the placement doesn’t work out?
Contract roles get a five-business-day no-cost replacement. Direct hire carries a 90-day replacement guarantee, standard across our practice. We’d rather lose a fee than place the same seat twice.
The next Shopify developer you hire shouldn’t take eleven weeks to find.
Tell us the tier, scope, and stack. We’ll send qualified candidates inside a week and comp benchmarks inside a day.
