SAP FICO Consultant Staffing

KORE1 staffs SAP FICO consultants on contract, contract-to-hire, and direct hire across the FI and CO modules, averaging 17 days to first qualified submit with 92% twelve-month retention.

FICO isn’t a job title, it’s two modules that a controller’s whole month runs through. FI keeps the books the auditors and the tax authority read. CO keeps the books your CFO reads to decide where the margin actually comes from. Hiring for one when you needed the other is how a close slips, so most finance teams staff this through ERP consultant staffing rather than a keyword match on a job board.

General Ledger and the new asset accounting, payables and receivables, cost center and internal orders, product costing, and the profitability analysis your CFO lives in. Plus the FI-MM and FI-SD integration points where finance and logistics argue. Screened by recruiters who can tell a costing specialist from someone who once sat next to one.

Written for the CFO, controller, or SAP finance lead who’s either scoping a new FICO build, mid-project and watching the close calendar slip, or short one specialist for a month-end that won’t wait. Maybe you need a General Ledger lead who can defend a chart-of-accounts decision your company lives with for a decade. Maybe you need a product-costing consultant because the material ledger went live and nobody internally can explain the variances. What follows is what we actually staff in 2026, sub-module by sub-module. If your SAP footprint runs past finance into logistics, HR, or the platform itself, our broader SAP consultant staffing page is the better starting point, and if you’re mid-conversion, so is SAP S/4HANA consultant staffing.

FI, CO, and the Reconciliation Nobody Staffs Until It Breaks

Ask for “a FICO consultant” and you’ve named two disciplines that share a login and little else. Guess the wrong half and the first close after go-live tells on you.

FI is the statutory side. General Ledger, the chart of accounts, accounts payable and receivable, asset accounting, bank and tax. It answers to auditors, to the tax authority, and to IFRS or your local GAAP, often to two or three ledgers at once. A strong FI consultant can sit with your controller through a UAT close and explain why a document splits the way it does without reaching for a manual. CO is the management side. Cost centers, internal orders, product costing, and profitability analysis. It answers to your CFO and to nobody outside the building, which is exactly why it’s the part that gets configured last and understood least.

The seam between them is where the real skill lives. Every logistics posting hits finance through FI-MM and FI-SD, every cost object rolls up through CO, and in S/4HANA all of it lands in one table. A consultant who only knows one side leaves you reconciling the other by hand. Naming which half the work actually points to is part of what our ERP recruiters do on the intake call, the same read they make across Oracle and Workday searches. When the need is really financial reporting design rather than configuration, that’s closer to a business analyst conversation.

FICO Roles We Fill

Six sub-modules cover most of what crosses the desk. Three sit in FI, three in CO. SAP codes them in two letters, and the skills behind the codes overlap far less than the shared “FICO” label suggests.

01
[FI · GL]

General Ledger & New GL Lead

The chart of accounts, document splitting, parallel ledgers for IFRS and local GAAP, and the month-end close itself. Owns the decision your company posts against for the next ten years.

02
[FI · AP·AR]

Payables & Receivables Consultant

The finance side of procure-to-pay and order-to-cash. Automatic payment program, dunning, credit management, and the reconciliation accounts that logistics keeps posting to without telling anyone.

03
[FI · AA]

Asset Accounting, Bank & Tax Consultant

Fixed assets and depreciation areas, bank accounting and electronic statements, and tax configuration. The lane where a wrong depreciation key surfaces at year-end, never before.

04
[CO · CCA]

Cost Center & Overhead Controller

Cost center accounting, internal orders, and the assessment and distribution cycles that push overhead where it belongs. Quiet work until an allocation runs backward and a plant’s numbers go strange.

05
[CO · PC]

Product Costing Specialist

Standard costing, the material ledger, actual costing, WIP and variances. The hardest FICO hire to find, because live manufacturing costing experience is genuinely thin and can’t be faked in an interview.

06
[CO · PA]

Profitability Analysis & Reporting Lead

Account-based versus costing-based CO-PA, margin analysis, and the handoff into Group Reporting. The report your CFO opens first and questions hardest.

[close] The Month-End Close Is the Real Interview

You can’t see a FICO consultant’s true skill on a resume. You see it in how they talk about a close that went sideways. That’s what we screen for, and it’s why our questions sound less like a certification exam and more like a post-mortem.

Anyone can list “GL, AP, AR, asset accounting.” The tell is what happens when we ask about a real one. How they handled a foreign-currency valuation that wouldn’t tie out. What they did the month the intercompany eliminations broke and the consolidated numbers were due Friday. Whether they’ve actually run a material ledger closing cockpit or only read about it. A consultant who has owned a close speaks in specifics, in cycles and reconciliation accounts and the one setting that always bites. Someone who studied for the badge speaks in bullet points.

We don’t forward anyone who leads with “familiar with SAP finance.” On a live ledger, familiarity is the floor. We screen for people who have carried a client from blueprint through a clean statutory and management close, and who can say plainly which sub-module they’d rather not own. The ones who claim all six equally are usually strong at none. When the reporting layer on top matters as much as the config underneath, our business analyst desk covers the requirements side.

Where FICO Searches Actually Land

Three shapes account for nearly every FICO req we open.

The close-support gap. Your one internal FICO analyst is out, or drowning, and month-end doesn’t move. This is the most common call we get, and it’s usually a contract-to-hire because nobody commits headcount until they’ve watched someone run a real close without breaking anything. For steady-state application support after that, our managed IT staffing desk covers the ongoing queue.

The S/4HANA Finance conversion lead. You’ve moved, or you’re moving, and FI and CO now share the Universal Journal. Someone has to own the new asset accounting, the ledger design, and the reconciliation that used to happen in two places. These run nine to eighteen months on contract, and the strongest profiles spent years in classic ECC FICO before the migration wave. If the whole program is the conversion rather than just finance, SAP S/4HANA consultant staffing is the wider net.

The product-costing or CO-PA specialist search. The narrowest and slowest. In manufacturing especially, someone who has stood up the material ledger and can explain a production variance to the plant controller is rare enough that we start the search before the req is even signed. That hire often overlaps our manufacturing IT staffing desk.

Why KORE1 for FICO Staffing

We’ve staffed enterprise IT since 2005, back when SAP finance meant a server room down the hall and a batch job you kicked off before you went home. That history matters here more than it sounds. The FICO consultants worth hiring today are often the same people who ran classic ECC closes for a decade, and in plenty of cases we placed them the first time around.

Every submit clears a recruiter-led screen built for the sub-module. A GL candidate walks us through a ledger design they’d defend. A costing candidate gets a variance scenario, not a menu-path quiz. We ask everyone about the close that taught them the most, because that’s the fastest way to separate someone who has owned a finance configuration from someone who attended the training and kept the slides.

We also tell you when the answer isn’t more FICO. If the real gap is financial reporting design or a systems analyst rather than a configurator, we’ll say so, and sometimes the hire sits closer to our enterprise architect desk. Teams weighing other platforms end up on our Oracle Cloud ERP, NetSuite, and Workday consultant pages instead. If you’re still scoping the hire itself, our guide on how to hire an SAP consultant walks through it, and our salary benchmark tool pulls a current range for your market before you set the req.

Recruiting is national, with desks in Orange County, Los Angeles, and San Diego. Most FICO work places remote or hybrid regardless. When you’re ready, reach out and we’ll scope the search against your actual sub-module map and close calendar, not a job title.

Common Questions About SAP FICO Consultant Staffing

What does an SAP FICO consultant cost in 2026?

Contract FICO consultants generally bill between $95 and $180 an hour in 2026, with product-costing and CO-PA specialists at the top of that band because the pool is so small. Direct hire base salaries for experienced FICO leads run roughly $135K to $195K, and finance solution architects go higher. The tight end of the market is anyone who has stood up a material ledger or owned a clean S/4HANA Finance close, since demand for both jumped as the 2027 ECC deadline pulled conversions forward. Our salary benchmark tool pulls a live range for your market before you set the req.

What’s the difference between FI and CO, and do we need both?

FI is external accounting and CO is internal, and most teams need both, but rarely in equal measure. FI runs the General Ledger, payables, receivables, assets, and tax, the books your auditors and the tax authority read. CO runs cost centers, product costing, and profitability analysis, the numbers your CFO uses to steer the business. A single consultant strong in both is uncommon, so we scope which side carries the weight of your project and staff the depth there, with cross-training on the seam. If you genuinely need equal senior depth in both, that’s two hires, and we’ll tell you so upfront.

Is FICO different on S/4HANA than on classic ECC?

Yes, and the biggest change is that FI and CO now post to one table, the Universal Journal. Reconciliation that used to live in two places collapses into ACDOCA, asset accounting was rebuilt, and the material ledger is mandatory rather than optional. A consultant who spent years in ECC FICO carries most of the business logic across, but they need real exposure to the new data model and the S/4HANA close, not just a certification. We screen for that gap directly rather than assuming ECC experience transfers cleanly.

Why is a product-costing consultant so hard to find?

Because you can’t learn it from a course. Product costing, the material ledger, and actual costing only make sense once you’ve configured them against real production, real bills of material, and a plant controller who challenges every variance. Most SAP consultants touched costing once and moved on, so the people who genuinely own it are few and usually already on a project. This is the search we start earliest and the one most likely to need a national reach. In manufacturing it often overlaps our manufacturing IT staffing desk.

How long does it take to fill a FICO consultant role?

Our average across IT searches is 17 days to first qualified submit. Contract close-support roles usually fill in two to three weeks, direct hire runs four to seven, and product-costing or CO-PA specialists take longest because the qualified pool is small. The single biggest reason a search drags past two months is a job description asking one person to own GL, costing, and profitability analysis at a senior level. Name the sub-module that actually matters and the shortlist gets short fast.

Should we use our implementation partner’s consultants or hire our own?

Use both, and know what each is for. Your systems integrator owns methodology and delivery risk under a signed statement of work. Directly-sourced FICO consultants answer to you, cost meaningfully less per hour, and stay after the partner rolls off, keeping the configuration knowledge in the building. The finance teams that come out of an implementation in the best shape run the partner alongside one or two of their own contract consultants who absorb the ledger and costing decisions instead of watching them walk out the door at hypercare.

Do SAP FICO certifications actually matter?

Less than most clients expect, with one caveat. A current S/4HANA Finance certification signals someone kept up as the platform moved, and the older ECC-era certs are aging out. But we’ve screened certified candidates who never closed a live period and uncertified ones who ran a decade of them, and the badge rarely settled it either way. Certifications earn real weight when a partner or an audit requires them, or when two finalists are otherwise even. Past that, we weight the closes they’ve actually owned and how they answer a costing question far more heavily.
