KORE1 staffs temporary IT, engineering, accounting and finance roles across Orange County on defined-duration assignments, from an Irvine office, and our technology desk averages 17 days from intake to an accepted offer.

A permanent search can ask somebody to move. A sixteen-week assignment can’t, so every temp req in this county gets solved inside whatever radius the building can reach, and that circle is usually a lot tighter than the job description assumes. Most reqs never say so.

An operations director in Lake Forest found that out on us last spring. She wanted a quality engineer for twenty weeks, and eight months earlier we’d closed a near-identical req for a manufacturer off Katella in Anaheim, so she figured we’d reuse the shortlist. Eleven names on it. Two were free and genuinely interested in the work, and neither one was taking the 55 south at four o’clock, five days a week, through October.

Neither of them mentioned traffic. They said the timing wasn’t great, which in this county usually means the same thing.

Distance gets measured in minutes here, and the minutes swing hard depending on which way you’re pointed. Direction beats mileage. Brea to Aliso Viejo is 34 miles and about seventy of them on a Tuesday morning. Same 34 miles northbound at ten and you’re there in half an hour. So a stalled search in Orange County is usually geometry rather than a talent shortage, and the fix is a conversation about onsite days rather than about rate.

Our recruiters sit on Discovery in Irvine, a few minutes off the Spectrum, and that isn’t a small thing when a Costa Mesa controller wants to know whether somebody from Yorba Linda is really going to keep making that drive in February. That answer ought to come from a person who’s made it. We’ve made it.

The Seat Is Already Full of Work

A temp professional here inherits a queue, not a job description. Badge and network access land on Monday. Wednesday she’s in a design review. By Friday somebody wants her judgment on a nonconformance written by a person she hasn’t met, against a validated system she saw for the first time seventy-two hours ago. The submission date doesn’t move for any of that. Nobody builds her a runway.

That’s the line between this desk and the volume end of our industry, and it’s a real one. Warehouse and event staffing runs on a supervised ramp, it works, and KORE1 staffs a lot of it off a separate bench with a separate team. Professional coverage assumes the opposite. The person gets useful before anybody trains her, which sounds like a small distinction until you’ve screened forty people who all wrote quick learner on the resume and watched two of them turn out to be one.

The paperwork underneath stays deliberately boring. Employment sits with us for the run of the assignment, so payroll, employment taxes, unemployment insurance, workers’ comp and California sick leave accrual are ours. Your managers direct the work, set the hours and enforce the site rules. Window closes, employment closes. Nothing to eliminate, and no severance conversation sitting on anybody’s calendar.

Worth stating the boundary plainly, since people do ask. No day labor through this desk. No warehouse crews, no event staff, no clerical pools, and nobody here is standing up your booth at the convention center. Those are real KORE1 services running off a different bench, whether that’s the national temporary staffing desk or our light industrial and warehouse team. They’re just not this one. Different recruiters, different pipeline.

What Onsite Days Actually Buy You

Onsite days are the biggest lever on an Orange County temp search and hardly anybody treats them like one. Below is roughly what each pattern reaches from a building near John Wayne Airport, measured in a normal weekday commute rather than in miles.

Five days onsite about 15 miles

Costa Mesa, Tustin, Irvine, Fountain Valley, Newport Beach

The tightest pool we work with. Fine on a common skill. Punishing on a narrow one, and the reason a validation engineer search can sit five weeks while the same req at three days closes in nine.

Three days onsite about 25 miles

Adds Anaheim, Fullerton, Mission Viejo, Huntington Beach, Cerritos

The most common professional temp pattern in the county now, and the one candidates ask for by name. Two commuting days a week is a rounding error in somebody’s calendar. Five is a lifestyle decision.

Two days onsite 40 miles and beyond

Adds Long Beach, Corona, Riverside, Chino Hills, San Clemente

This is where the Inland Empire opens up, and on a thin skill it is frequently the whole difference between a shortlist and an apology. Housing costs pushed a lot of good Orange County talent east over the last decade. They still come in twice a week.

None of this is a case against onsite work. If the seat genuinely requires five days in a cleanroom or on a shop floor, it requires five days, and we will run that search. It just needs to be a decision somebody made rather than a habit somebody copied from an old req. Habits aren’t decisions.

Where the Seats Open, Corridor by Corridor

What opens a temporary seat changes as you move north to south across the county’s 34 cities. Five corridors cover most of what reaches the desk. North of the county line, the Los Angeles temp staffing page maps the same reach question basin by basin. In Arizona, the Phoenix temp staffing page reads the window against the phase of a capital build instead. The temporary staffing in Austin, TX page starts one step earlier, with what the résumé really means. On the Gulf Coast, the Houston temp desk works it backward from turnaround and hurricane-season dates.

North County

Buena Park · Fullerton · Brea · Yorba Linda · Placentia

Distribution, food production and older manufacturing. Seats open when an ERP or warehouse system cutover slides into peak season, or when a plant controller resigns halfway through a fiscal year. Peak season sets the deadline. Cost accountants, ERP analysts, process and maintenance engineers.

57

The Old Industrial Spine

Anaheim · Orange · Villa Park

Aerospace, defense, healthcare systems and the county’s oldest manufacturing base. Windows out here get pinned to program milestones, so they run long. Programs slip. Raise citizenship and export control eligibility at intake, because otherwise it surfaces at offer.

55

Central and the Airport

Santa Ana · Costa Mesa · Tustin · Newport Beach

Financial services, insurance, mortgage and consumer brands. This corridor swings hardest with the rate cycle, which makes it the source of both the fastest ramps in the county and the fastest wind-downs. Most of our Orange County accounting and finance coverage work starts here.

405

The Spectrum

Irvine · Lake Forest · Foothill Ranch

Medical device, software, semiconductors and automotive design. Seats open against an FDA submission, an ISO 13485 audit, a release date, or a validation backlog nobody staffed for. Our own office sits on this stretch.

5

South County

Mission Viejo · Aliso Viejo · Laguna Hills · San Clemente

Smaller headquarters and professional services firms, often 80 to 400 people. Usually one deep in finance and one deep in IT. One person is the department, so a single job-protected leave turns into a genuine emergency rather than an inconvenience.

Plenty of reqs straddle two corridors, and that is the most common reason a search everybody expected to be easy takes six weeks.

What California Adds to the Arithmetic

Managers who’ve staffed temp in Texas or Arizona tend to price an Orange County assignment about fifteen percent light, and it’s almost never the bill rate they got wrong. California counts overtime by the day. The arithmetic changes. Past eight hours in a workday runs at time and a half, past twelve runs at double, and a two-week crunch turns into a visibly different invoice than the same crunch in Phoenix. Missed meal and rest periods carry premium pay on top. Temporary employees accrue paid sick leave too, at a state floor of 40 hours a year since January 2024.

None of it is exotic and all of it lands on our W-2 rather than your books. It just wants to be in the number at intake instead of surfacing in week six.

The other thing worth budgeting for is the screening. One question does more work than any structured loop we’ve tried, and it’s just asking what the drive looks like on the worst day of the week rather than the average one. People who’ve actually driven it answer in specifics. They name an exit, or the hour they leave the house. People who’ve only looked at a map answer in adjectives. The difference shows immediately.

And sometimes the honest read is that this is not a temporary problem at all. Roughly one intake call in six ends with us pointing somebody at a different engagement model, which is a conversation worth having in September rather than in November.

ModelUse it whenTypical lengthWho says yes
TemporaryAn end date somebody already knows4 to 26 weeksCareer contractors who plan the year in blocks

Contract-to-hireYou want to watch the work before committing3 to 6 months, then convertStrong people open to permanent, testing fit
Direct hireThe seat was always permanentOngoingCandidates who will not consider anything else

If two rows look right, book the conversation rather than the requisition. We would rather talk you out of a temp assignment in September than replace one in November. When what is short is capacity rather than a person, project staffing is usually the better shape, and backfill coverage exists for the stretch while a permanent search runs.

FAQ

Common Questions

Which roles actually run through this desk?

Technology, engineering, accounting and finance, plus data and analytics, from mid-level individual contributors through interim managers. Warehouse, clerical and event work is staffed by a different KORE1 team.

What repeats most in Orange County is quality and validation engineers, senior accountants, financial and business analysts, cloud and platform engineers, and BI developers. Certifications and export control eligibility belong in the first conversation, because finding out at offer stage costs you the candidate and roughly three weeks.

How quickly can an Orange County assignment start?

Two business days is the usual gap between intake and the first profiles, and a clean Orange County assignment can have somebody productive within seven to ten days.

The 17 day technology average covers every engagement type we run, and narrow temp windows normally land faster than that, since this bench keeps its calendar deliberately open. Your background check vendor sets the real floor. Everything after that comes down to how fast interviews get scheduled. That part is yours.

What should we budget per hour for professional temp in Orange County?

Bill rates on our own Orange County assignments run from the mid $40s an hour for a staff accountant to roughly $140 for a senior cloud or validation engineer.

Mid-level analyst and engineering work sits between $60 and $105 most of the time. Two forces push this county above national comparables and neither is negotiable, those being the daily overtime rules and a cost of living that is already inside every candidate’s number before you say a word. Read any range as a starting frame rather than a quote. Rates move monthly.

Who is the employer of record, and what if the fit is wrong?

We are. The consultant is a KORE1 employee for the full assignment, which puts payroll, employment taxes, workers’ compensation and California sick leave accrual on us while your managers direct the day-to-day.

Flag a bad fit inside the first week and we swap the person out, with no argument about fees. It is uncommon, and skills are rarely the cause when it happens. Nine times in ten the req and the actual job had quietly drifted apart. You want that surfaced in week one regardless.

What happens when we want to keep somebody past the end date?

Extensions are routine and usually amount to changing a date. Converting somebody onto your payroll runs through a fee that shrinks the longer they have been on assignment with you.

Say it early if you suspect it, because we will structure the search as contract-to-hire from the start, and that widens the candidate pool instead of narrowing it. A lot of strong people will take a four-month assignment precisely because conversion is on the table. Timing changes the fee. Raising it in month five costs more and lands awkwardly on both sides.

Which parts of the county do you actually recruit in?

All 34 cities, Buena Park down to San Clemente, plus the Cerritos, Long Beach and Inland Empire edge that commutes in.

More usefully, we confirm which buildings a person physically has to sit in before submitting them, and we ask about the drive at its worst hour instead of its average. Candidates here are precise about direction of travel. Twelve miles the wrong way at eight in the morning is a hard objection rather than a soft one.

Why not just use your Orange County staffing agency page?

Different question, same team. This page is professional and technical temporary coverage on a defined window. The Orange County staffing agency page is the general one, permanent hiring and light industrial included.

Start here when you can put a rough number of weeks on the gap. Start there when the seat is staying, or when you are genuinely undecided about which of the two you need. Same recruiters either way, and the same building in Irvine.
