IT contractor rates in Atlanta run $44 to $56 an hour for a Level 2 help desk technician (median $49) and $94 to $118 for a mid software engineer (median $105), per KORE1 Contract Rate Index 2026-Q4.
Last updated: October 31, 2026
As of that date, three months of the help desk seat budgets at about $25,500, and three months of the engineer at about $54,800. Both assume 40-hour weeks. Wages, employer taxes and the staffing firm’s own costs all sit inside the number. Nothing gets added later.
Ryan McManus of KORE1 explains why this page exists in terms any IT director will recognize. A buyer asks something specific, with a role, a level, a city and a contract length attached, and the page that answers with real data earns the citation and the inquiry. So we answered. This table belongs next to our IT staffing in Atlanta work, and it’s priced on the same contract staffing terms as every other IT staffing engagement KORE1 has run since 2005.
One caveat before the numbers. Every Atlanta line is modeled. Not observed. The table says so, row by row.
What Does a Contract IT Worker Cost per Hour in Atlanta in 2026?
Read it like a timetable. One stop per seat. The hourly range is the 25th to 75th percentile, and the two budget columns assume 520 and 1,040 hours at the median.

Modeled lines start from BLS OEWS May 2025 wages for the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell metro, add a 24% employer burden, then apply the bill bands KORE1 sees on its own placements. No Atlanta role has the five KORE1 placements the index needs to print an observed line.

How Much Does a 3-Month vs a 6-Month Contract Cost in Atlanta?
Double. The index applies one hourly rate to both lengths, so 26 weeks costs twice what 13 weeks does, give or take rounding. No volume break.
A senior software engineer in Atlanta budgets near $65,700 for the shorter contract and $131,400 for the longer one. Level 1 help desk sits at the other end, $20,300 and $40,500. Same math at every level. Support seats often get priced by the month instead, and IT support cost per month shows that version.
Most Atlanta budget conversations involve more than one seat, though. Say a finance team moves to a new ERP and wants a mid-level ERP consultant, a business systems analyst to carry requirements and a Level 2 technician for the floor support after go-live. Thirteen weeks of those three comes to about $123,700. Not a small number. Twenty-six weeks comes to about $247,300, a figure worth seeing before the steering committee asks for it. Our more KORE1 staffing in Atlanta page covers how those ERP seats get filled, and the staff augmentation cost breakdown runs the same math by the month. A product team is a different mix of seats, and contract development team cost prices that one.
There’s a second reason to look hard at 26 weeks. It lands on 1,040 hours. Past that line a KORE1 contractor can join your payroll with no conversion fee. Teams still weighing that route can start with contract-to-hire staffing.
How Fast Can a Contractor Start in Atlanta, and How Long Do Assignments Run?
Five mileposts on a typical contract, taken from KORE1 placement records across every market we staff. These medians are company-wide, not Atlanta-only.
- Day 3Median first shift after a signed offer, from 1,997 contract starts
- Week 13520 hours, the 3-month column in the table
- Day 116Median assignment across all roles, 1,887 that ended
- Day 136Median for IT roles, 410 of those assignments
- Week 261,040 hours, and conversion carries no fee
A 13-week budget is often the wrong size for IT work. The typical IT assignment ends around week 19 or 20, so a team that funds one quarter will probably be back asking for more money while the contractor is still mid-project. Plan for that. Fund the likely length up front, and let the work end early if it can.
Speed rarely eats the budget. Three days from signature to first shift means nearly all 520 hours go to work. There’s more on that in how fast a contractor can start.

What Is Inside an Atlanta Bill Rate?
Start with the vocabulary. Devin Hornick, a partner at KORE1, puts it this way. “First off, it’s not a markup. Secondly, there’s a margin in there. And thirdly, there’s a bunch of other costs that you’re not thinking of.”
He uses round numbers. “$100 an hour. There’s a burden of 24% generally in California… now with the burden you have $124, and so we make our profit after the $124… a bill rate on something like that would likely be around $150… maybe even $160.” A quoted markup often leaves that burden out. Ask what the quoted number covers. Always.
Georgia’s required list is shorter than California’s. It’s short enough to read here.
State unemployment on $9,500 of wages
The Georgia Department of Labor taxes the first $9,500 per worker each year. Colorado’s base is $30,600. The rate varies by employer.
No state sick leave accrual
Georgia doesn’t require private employers to offer paid sick leave (NCSL state leave laws), so no state accrual gets priced in.
No state family leave premium
Private employers here don’t pay into a state paid-family-leave fund. So no payroll line.
Federal overtime only
No daily overtime rule here. Time and a half starts past 40 hours in a workweek (U.S. Department of Labor), so a long go-live Saturday only triggers it if the week crosses that line.
Federal payroll tax, the largest piece
Social Security is 6.2% to $184,500 and Medicare 1.45% (IRS Publication 15). FUTA is 0.6% net on the first $7,000 (IRS Topic 759).
The index still applies a flat 24% burden in Atlanta. That’s deliberate. State costs vary, and one figure keeps every metro comparable. Workers’ compensation and liability coverage sit inside it too, and KORE1 pays contractors’ dental and vision in full. Our contractor burden rate page breaks the 24% into its lines.
How Do Atlanta Rates Compare With the National Benchmark?
Atlanta started as a settlement called Terminus, at the end of a state railroad, and the Zero Mile Post marked the spot. This chart borrows the idea. The U.S. median is zero, and every bar shows how far the Atlanta line sits from it.
| Role and level | Atlanta | U.S. | Gap | UnderOver |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ERP / NetSuite consultant, mid | $94 | $84 | +$10 (+12%) | |
| Accountant, senior | $92 | $87 | +$5 (+6%) | |
| Controller, mid | $131 | $127 | +$4 (+3%) | |
| Systems administrator, mid | $80 | $79 | +$1 (+1%) | |
| IT project manager, mid | $82 | $81 | +$1 (+1%) | |
| Help desk, Level 2 | $49 | $49 | $0 | |
| Network engineer, mid | $106 | $106 | $0 | |
| Software engineer, mid | $105 | $108 | −$3 (−3%) | |
| Software engineer, senior | $126 | $131 | −$5 (−4%) |
Atlanta prices close to the country. Level 2 help desk and mid network engineers match the U.S. median. To the dollar. Systems administrators and project managers are one dollar over. Software actually bills under it, at $105 for a mid engineer against $108.
ERP is the exception. A mid-level ERP or NetSuite consultant bills a $94 median here, $10 or 12% over the country, and business systems analysts price the same way because the index maps both to one occupation. Finance leans that way too. A senior accountant runs 6% over and a controller 3%. If Georgia’s payments corridor, Transaction Alley, is part of why those seats run warm, the wage data can’t prove it. Budget the seat either way.
Across the South, Atlanta’s $105 mid software engineer sits beside Dallas-Fort Worth’s $106, under Charlotte’s $108 and over Nashville’s $100, while New York bills $127. BLS shows the same pull toward the middle in its own all-occupation figures, with the Atlanta metro averaging $34.57 an hour against $33.54 nationally in May 2025. Cincinnati marks the low end of that seat at $96, per the Cincinnati rate board. See every metro in IT contractor rates by city, compare Dallas-Fort Worth contract rates, Houston contract rates, Chicago contract rates or New York contract rates, or check our national tech contractor hourly rates. Washington, DC bills $119 for that seat, on the Washington, DC contractor rate page.

Why Every Atlanta Rate in the Table Is Modeled
Because we haven’t placed enough people here to claim otherwise. Most KORE1 placements are in Southern California, and the index won’t print an observed line for a metro until a role has five placements behind it. Atlanta hasn’t reached that on any role. Not yet.
Models can be disciplined. The federal wage survey sets the base for this metro, and KORE1 billing history sets the spread on top, so each median is a fair estimate of where an Atlanta quote centers before anyone has read the actual req or asked about onsite days. Your req moves it.
Four things push it. Onsite days matter, particularly five days a week in Midtown or at an office near Hartsfield-Jackson. Scarce skills matter too, like a specific NetSuite module or PCI experience on a payments platform. So does a rushed start. And a title that says senior on a budget that says mid will get flagged by us before any number goes out.
By specialty, engineers come through engineering staffing in Atlanta and AI seats through AI staffing in Atlanta. Where These Atlanta Contract Rates Apply
BLS publishes one wage area for the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell metro, so one rate set covers all of it. Quotes shift with onsite days more than with the side of I-285 you’re on.

- Buckheadfinance, insurance and professional-services towers along Peachtree Road
- Perimeter CenterSandy Springs and Dunwoody headquarters around GA-400 and I-285

Contract, Contract-to-Hire or Direct Hire in Atlanta: Which Costs Less?
Neither wins on price by much across a full year. The real choice is about speed and how easily you can reverse the decision.
Billed by the hour
Contract
The seat ends when the work ends, and a contractor can convert free after 1,040 hours.
How contract staffing worksTrial first
Contract-to-hire
The hourly rate applies during the trial, and 207 of 552 KORE1 placements converted, or 37.5%.
Contract-to-hire vs direct hire costSingle fee
Direct hire
You pay 20% of first-year base salary once, and a 60-day replacement guarantee comes with it.
Direct hire staffing
Devin Hornick ran the comparison on a recorded KORE1 call. On a $100,000 hire the placement fee is $20,000, and spreading that across 1,040 contract hours lands close to what a bill rate carries anyway. “There’s really no savings in going direct hire versus contract,” he said.
It comes down to risk. Contract has no replacement guarantee, and we’d rather say that here than in a dispute later. You get speed instead, in a seat that starts quickly and stops cleanly. Direct hire reverses that trade, since the search takes longer and the fee is due up front, but a 60-day guarantee stands behind it and the person stays after the project closes.
How These Atlanta Numbers Are Built
Three steps. We take the hourly wage for the occupation from the May 2025 BLS OEWS wage tables for the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell metro, choosing the 25th percentile for junior and Level 1, the median for mid and Level 2, and the 75th for senior and Level 3. That wage gets multiplied by 1.24 for employer burden. Then the bill-to-cost range from KORE1 placements at a similar cost level turns it into a bill range, which is why a line can run wider or narrower than its neighbor even when the two medians look close.
Occupation codes behind the table are 15-1232 for help desk, 15-1244 for systems administrators, 15-1241 for network engineers, 15-1212 for security, 15-1252 for software engineers, 15-1253 for QA, 15-1243 for data engineers, 15-1211 for ERP consultants and business systems analysts, 13-1111 for business analysts, 13-1082 for project managers, 13-2051 for financial analysts, 13-2011 for accountants and 11-3031 for controllers.
What stays out? Payroll-only arrangements, offshore and corp-to-corp work, and deals with an unusual bill-to-pay relationship. Version 2026-Q4 took effect October 16, 2026, with the next update due January 2027. The full write-up is how the index is built.
