KORE1 provides accounting staffing in Las Vegas for staff accountants, revenue auditors, controllers, FP&A analysts and CFOs, on contract or as permanent hires. Average fill is 17 days, and 92% of placements stay past a year.

Las Vegas has an unusual finance market. It employs more financial managers than accountants, which is backwards from the national pattern. The BLS May 2025 survey of the Las Vegas-Henderson-North Las Vegas metro counts 5,560 financial managers and only 4,680 accountants and auditors.

That accountant count is a location quotient of 0.44, so the valley has less than half the accountants per worker that the country does. The bench is thin. In practice, a lot of staff and senior accountant searches here quietly turn into relocation searches by the second week, once everyone qualified within a 20-minute drive has either been called or already said no.

We’ve recruited finance people since 2005, and our accounting and finance staffing agency sits in Irvine, California, about four hours down I‑15. That drive matters. Plenty of the people we place in Las Vegas are moving up that same road.

Las Vegas accounting staffing runs on two sets of books

The casinos keep the first set. MGM Resorts, Wynn Resorts, Boyd Gaming and Red Rock Resorts all run corporate finance from the valley, and the properties under them staff cage, credit, revenue audit and gaming tax teams that most accountants have never seen up close. Cage work is its own trade.

Gaming accounting is regulated in a way hotel accounting isn’t. Under the Nevada Gaming Control Board’s Minimum Internal Control Standards, the larger Group I licensees write down how cash and chips move from the drop box through the count room to the cage, and an independent accountant confirms that system in writing every year. Revenue auditors who know those standards cold are a small group. We try to know most of them.

Everyone else keeps the second set. Henderson has hospitals, distribution centers and the Raiders’ headquarters, and Summerlin has Allegiant’s head office. They hire controllers, cost accountants and FP&A people like any operating company would (inventory, payroll accruals, a bank covenant or two), and we’ve watched a résumé full of casino titles get passed over there more than once.

Half your shortlist may live in California right now

A lot of Las Vegas finance searches end up recruiting from Southern California, simply because the local accountant pool is so small. Those candidates aren’t naive about money. Most have already looked up the pay difference, and it goes something like this.

BLS OEWS medians, May 2025
RoleLas VegasLos AngelesGap
Accountants & auditors$80,530$94,360$13,830
Financial managers$132,650$175,310$42,660
Financial analysts$84,800$102,260$17,460
Bookkeeping clerks$49,960$58,590$8,630

Taxes change that picture a bit (not as much as people hope). Nevada’s constitution doesn’t allow a personal income tax. California’s 2025 rate schedule, on the other hand, charges a single filer 9.3% on income between $72,724 and $371,479, so a controller moving east keeps several thousand dollars a year that used to go to Sacramento. Candidates who’ve priced a house in Henderson usually say the rest of the gap closes there.

Our advice is to skip the Los Angeles comparison and price the offer on what a California candidate would actually keep. We also ask about family, schools and summers (the heat is a real conversation, especially for people from the coast) before anyone gets an offer, because a relocation that falls apart in July is worse than not hiring at all.

Last, the engagement model. A year-end close, a gaming tax audit or a system cutover usually calls for contract staffing. If the need is there and the headcount approval isn’t yet, contract-to-hire fills the gap. For a controller or CFO you’d like to keep for years, it’s direct hire.

Accounting staffing across the Las Vegas Valley

Every groove in a cage rack holds the same chips. The six parts of the valley we recruit in don’t hire the same finance people at all.

The Strip & Paradise

Casino-resort corporate finance, revenue audit, cage and credit, and gaming tax reporting.

Downtown & the Arts District

Fremont Street casinos, law-firm finance, city and county agencies, and the nonprofits around them.

Summerlin

Airline and resort headquarters, plus the real estate developers building out the west side.

Henderson & Green Valley

Hospitals, distribution, light manufacturing and pro sports, mostly non-gaming finance teams.

Southwest & the 215 Beltway

Newer office parks, data centers, construction firms and mid-market companies adding their first controller.

North Las Vegas & Apex

Warehousing, manufacturing and logistics, where cost accounting and inventory control carry the close.

Controllers to CFOs

Finance roles we fill in Las Vegas, staff level up to CFO

Four levels of the finance team, and each one comes with its own Las Vegas wrinkle.

Level 1 of 4

Staff & Senior Accountants

Reconciliations and close support, plus revenue auditors who already know drop, count and cage paperwork.

Level 2 of 4

Controllers & Accounting Managers

Close owners for resorts and operating companies, including controllers who have been through a gaming audit.

Level 3 of 4

FP&A & Financial Analysts

Forecasters for hotel occupancy, convention calendars and the construction draws that keep projects funded.

Level 4 of 4

CFOs & VPs of Finance

Permanent finance chiefs, or fractional CFO coverage for founders who aren’t ready for the full salary.

Other seats we cover include CPAs, tax accountants, financial analysts and bookkeepers. Wondering who picks up the phone? Our accounting recruiters handle close and audit roles, and our finance recruiters cover FP&A, treasury and CFO work.

How a search runs

How a Las Vegas finance search works with KORE1

There are four steps, and none of them is complicated. Staff-level roles usually clear all four within a week or so. Senior searches (controller and up) take longer here, partly because the best people are employed and partly because relocation adds a conversation (sometimes two) that a local search never needs.

  1. 01
Intake. We spend about half an hour on your month-end calendar, which ERP you run, whether the job is on-site, and how much gaming background the role really needs (often less than the posting says).
  2. 02
Pay and relocation check. Your range gets compared with Las Vegas and Southern California data. Then we figure out, with you, whether a relocation stipend would do more than a bigger base.
  3. 03
Recruiter screen. A recruiter who only does finance searches talks with each candidate about technical depth and systems. For anyone out of state, we also ask how firm the move is once a spouse and kids weigh in.
  4. 04
Shortlist. You get two to four finalists, references from people who managed them, and our honest read on the one thing most likely to go wrong with each.
Questions

Common Questions

How much does accounting staffing cost in Las Vegas?

Direct-hire fees usually land between 20% and 25% of first-year base pay, and contract accountants bill at an hourly rate that already covers their wages, burden and our margin.

Here’s the math. At the Las Vegas median of $80,530 for accountants (BLS May 2025), a 20% fee comes to roughly $16,100. Controller and CFO searches cost more in dollars because the salaries are bigger, and a relocation search can add a stipend on your side.

You’ll see the fee in writing before we start. Every direct hire carries a replacement guarantee.

What’s a realistic timeline for a Las Vegas controller search?

Plan on four to eight weeks for a controller, even though KORE1’s average fill across all searches is 17 days.

Sometimes longer. The thin local bench is most of the reason. When your best finalist lives in Irvine or Phoenix, the process picks up a site visit, a second call with a spouse listening in and a family conversation about schools that never shows up on anybody’s interview calendar.

Speed comes from your side, too. The quickest searches we run here have a hiring manager who clears the calendar for first interviews within two days of getting the shortlist, instead of waiting for a team meeting the following week.

Do candidates need casino accounting experience?

Only for the gaming side. A revenue auditor or cage manager needs it, but a controller at a Henderson manufacturer almost never does.

Gaming finance has its own vocabulary, from drop and hold to Title 31 cash reporting and the MICS, and someone who has lived it ramps up in days while someone who hasn’t can spend the first quarter just learning what the count sheets mean. It cuts the other way too. Some non-gaming employers read a résumé that’s all casino titles as a narrow one, so we position those candidates carefully, and that usually works.

Will California candidates take a Las Vegas pay cut?

Many will, since Nevada has no state income tax and California taxes a single filer’s income above $72,724 at 9.3% or more.

The base gap is still real, about $14,000 at the accountant median and $43,000 for financial managers in BLS May 2025 data, and we don’t pretend it disappears. Housing, a shorter commute and a title step up usually close the rest. Not always. If a candidate’s math doesn’t work, you’ll hear it from us before the offer stage.

Is a fractional CFO enough, or do we need a full-time one?

Go fractional when the work is a few days a month of CFO-level judgment, and go full-time once lenders, investors or a board expect someone in the seat every week.

Plenty of Las Vegas companies run a fractional CFO for a year before opening a permanent CFO search. Gaming licensees should start that search early. A finance officer at a licensed company may need a suitability review from Nevada regulators before taking the seat, and that adds weeks nobody budgets for.

Do you recruit in Henderson, Summerlin and North Las Vegas?

Yes. Most of our Las Vegas finance work happens off the Strip, in Henderson, Summerlin, the southwest valley, North Las Vegas and the Apex industrial area.

Distance rarely sinks a search here. The schedule usually does (resort finance runs on weekends and holidays more than people expect). A controller who has spent ten years on a resort calendar might love a Monday-to-Friday job in Henderson or find it slow, and we ask which before we send anyone over.
