Most Salt Lake City NetSuite Accounts Bill a Subscription, Not a Shipment

The accounts our recruiters see along I-15 between Lehi and downtown are rarely about pallets. They belong to software companies that sell a seat, a tier or a block of usage, invoice it in advance, and then spend the rest of the year changing what was sold. Weave, down in Lehi, booked 95.7 percent of its 2025 revenue as subscription and payment processing.

Forty seats get added in April. Marketing buys an analytics module in July, then the customer jumps a tier in August because a competitor did. Same contract. Four versions.

The metro had 861,300 nonfarm jobs in August 2026 on preliminary figures, about 21,000 more than a year earlier. The May 2025 Salt Lake City wage survey counted 42,960 computer and math jobs here at a $53.93 mean hourly wage, roughly 7 percent under the national figure. Plenty of it is software. Researchers at the University of Utah’s Gardner Policy Institute counted 118,600 direct tech jobs in Utah in 2018, one in seven statewide, most of them in Salt Lake and Utah counties.

Utah from Ogden to Provo is covered by our NetSuite consultant staffing desk, which sits inside the wider IT staffing services group at KORE1. On Silicon Slopes intake calls the phrase we hear most is “our renewals are a mess.” It almost never turns out to be a renewal problem. It is a booking problem.

One Contract, Many Versions

A Salt Lake City SaaS Contract Is Signed Once and Rewritten All Year

NetSuite does have an answer, and it is not a second sales order. SuiteBilling keeps the customer on one subscription, and Oracle’s help pages say you edit an active subscription with a change order that takes effect at the start of its own date. Seats bought in April go on as an add-on line that prorates by month or by day.

Say the contract renews January 1. Forty seats at $40 that start on April 1 should bill nine months, $14,400, and then renew with everything else. Finance people call that co-terming. Customers just call it normal, because Slack and Zoom already bill them that way.

Plenty of the accounts we get called into don’t.

Open one up and there it is. A second sales order, a second subscription, a second renewal date, usually made by a rep at quarter end and invoiced by a billing clerk without a blink. Stopping that at the design stage is NetSuite implementation consultant work, and after go-live somebody has to own price books, plans and who may create a subscription at all, which on most Silicon Slopes accounts means the NetSuite administrator.

The Co-Term

Read One Customer’s Year, Cell by Cell

This is one contract drawn as honeycomb, a month to each column and a subscription line to each row. A capped cell is a month billed and earned, and an open one is billed but still sitting in deferred revenue. Every row should stop at the renewal line. One does not.

The customer and the prices are invented. Seats at $40 a month, a $6 tier upgrade, analytics at $25 a user. Change any of it and the shape still holds.

  • Row 1, platform. 100 seats from January, 12 months at $4,000.
  • Row 2, added seats. 40 more from April, co-termed, 9 months at $1,600.
  • Row 3, analytics. 20 users from July, booked as a new 12-month subscription at $500 a month.
  • Row 4, tier upgrade. All 140 seats from August, co-termed, 5 months at $840.

Lines on the contract 4 Platform, added seats, analytics, upgrade
Billed so far $72,600 Each line invoiced in advance when it started
Earned through September $48,780 The 20 capped cells
Still deferred $23,820 The 18 open cells
Past the renewal date $3,000 Six analytics months running to June 30

What the subscription says

NetSuite should hold
A start date, an end date, a renewal rule and a price plan, all on the subscription itself.
Usually holds
A sales order, and the real terms in a CRM note.
Kept by
Solution architect
At an add-on

Whether it lands on the same date

NetSuite should hold
A change to the live subscription, prorated to the end date it already has.
Usually holds
A new sales order with twelve months of its own.
Kept by
Administrator
At month end

What was actually earned

NetSuite should hold
Revenue that follows each change from its effective date, with no spreadsheet rolled forward.
Usually holds
A deferred revenue schedule kept beside the account rather than in it.
Kept by
Functional consultant
At renewal

What renews, and when

NetSuite should hold
One renewal for every line on one date, quoted from the run rate the account already knows.
Usually holds
Two renewal invoices six months apart, and an ARR figure sales and finance each work out differently.
Kept by
SuiteScript developer

Now scale it. Two hundred customers with one stray line each, and the renewal calendar never closes. The board gets an ARR figure that moves depending on who pulled it, and collections chases invoices the customer swears it paid in July. If what is actually missing is a revenue policy rather than a setting, call our accounting recruiters in Salt Lake City instead.

The Second Rule

Revenue Follows the Contract, Not the Invoice

Billing is only half of it. Under ASC 606 a mid-term change is a contract modification, and the standard counts it as a separate contract only if it adds distinct goods or services priced at their standalone selling price. Anything else gets treated as if the old contract ended and a new one began, for whatever is still left to deliver.

A seat added at list price usually passes as its own contract. A discounted one, thrown in to close the upgrade, often fails. Then the math changes. The revenue still to come on the whole arrangement gets spread again from that date forward, and nobody should be doing that calculation by hand at eleven at night on the third working day of the close.

In NetSuite, one Advanced Revenue Management preference creates revenue elements for each subscription change order, and a prospective merge locks the original arrangement and starts a new one from the residual values. Getting those rules right takes a functional consultant who has defended a revenue schedule to an auditor. Making them fire on every change usually takes a SuiteScript developer as well, and if quotes start in Salesforce, a Salesforce and NetSuite integration specialist to stop the two systems disagreeing. Several skills, rarely one person.

Where We Recruit

Salt Lake City NetSuite Staffing Runs Up and Down I-15

The Wasatch Front is a long, narrow strip between the mountains and the lake, so which way a commute runs matters more than how far. Our NetSuite briefs bunch up in four places, and the accounts read differently in each.

Downtown Salt Lake City and the Utah State Capitol at dusk with the snow capped Wasatch Range glowing in alpenglow and the valley lights stretching south

Downtown Salt Lake City & Sugar House

Fintech, health-tech and the finance teams of larger employers. OneWorld, consolidation across subsidiaries and a first full-time administrator come up most often.

Lehi, Draper & the Point of the Mountain

The Silicon Slopes core. SuiteBilling, usage billing, revenue recognition and the Salesforce sync lead nearly every brief. Co-terming gets asked about by name here.

Provo, Orem & American Fork

Younger software companies and university spinouts, many leaving QuickBooks with a first audit on the calendar. Implementation and data migration get asked for first.

Ogden, Layton & Davis County

Aerospace suppliers, outdoor brands and distributors around Hill Air Force Base. Inventory, landed cost and work orders, and far fewer subscription questions.

Before a first interview we ask which side of the Point of the Mountain a candidate lives on. It sounds like small talk. What it really predicts is whether a Lehi job with four office days a week survives an inversion week in January.

One Interview Question

Add Forty Seats in April. Now Show Me the Renewal.

We put that prompt to most Salt Lake City NetSuite candidates. Weak answers start a new sales order. Wrong door. Better ones open the subscription, change it effective April 1, and check how proration is set before touching anything else.

The strongest keep going without being asked. Is the new seat at list price or a discount, and does that change the revenue treatment? Will the renewal quote pick up all 140 seats at the new rate, or only the first hundred? Who in sales is allowed to create a subscription instead of changing one, and why do they still have that permission?

Then we move the facts. The customer upgrades a tier in August and wants the April seats repriced too, backdated, and the CFO wants to know whether the April invoice gets credited or the difference just rolls into the next bill.

Clean answers to that are rare. Our NetSuite recruiters know who gives them.

The Seats

Four Seats, Four Moments in a Subscription

All four touch the whole contract. Inked stamps mark the moments that justify each rate.

NetSuite Administrator

Owns price books, plans and who may change a subscription, and catches the stray line before it invoices.

SuiteScript & SuiteFlow Developer

Automates proration checks, renewal creation and the sync that keeps the CRM and the subscription agreeing.

Functional & Implementation Consultant

Sets the revenue rules, the modification policy and the close checklist your auditor will ask to see.

Solution Architect

Designs how subscriptions, items, usage and revenue connect before the first customer gets migrated.

Editions, tiers and modules we staff for
  • SuiteBilling
  • Advanced Revenue Management
  • Usage-based billing
  • NetSuite CPQ
  • NetSuite OneWorld
  • Standard, Premium, Enterprise & Ultimate service tiers
  • SuiteAnalytics Workbook
  • Salesforce integration

SuiteBilling is on that list, and it will still let a rep create a second subscription for a customer who already has one. Somebody has to design that door shut.

Engagement Models

Fixing One Contract Is a Ticket. Fixing Every Renewal Date Is a Project.

The first takes an afternoon. The second changes how sales books a deal, and it needs someone around while the new habit sets.

Most Requested

Contract & Contract-to-Hire

We carry the payroll and you get the person, often for three to six months. Untangling stray subscriptions one customer at a time is typical contract work, as is the cleanup ahead of an audit or a funding round. A fair share of these contractors are still on the team a year on.

Contract Staffing →

Direct Hire

Hire this way for the administrator who will own subscriptions through the next price change, the next product launch and whatever gets bought next. The seat is mostly judgment. Keep it inside.

Direct Hire Staffing →

Project & Statement of Work

A set price for a set piece of work. That could be a NetSuite health check to count the strays, a CPQ implementation so quotes stop creating them, or a QuickBooks to NetSuite move ahead of a first audit.

Common Questions

What do NetSuite consultants charge in Salt Lake City?

On 2026 Salt Lake City searches, contract NetSuite administrators bill about $67 to $99 an hour, SuiteScript developers $82 to $136, functional and implementation consultants $94 to $155 and solution architects $128 to $201.

Those are bill rates. Pay is a separate question, and the NetSuite consultant salary guide covers it, with developers broken out in the SuiteScript developer pay guide. Salt Lake City prices below the Bay Area and Seattle, which matches the federal wage gap. Real SuiteBilling and revenue recognition experience on a live subscription account sits at the high end of every band, and the loaded cost by engagement model sits in our breakdown of NetSuite consultant cost.

How quickly can KORE1 fill a NetSuite seat in Salt Lake City?

17 days, on average, from the intake call to a first candidate worth interviewing. Administrator and SuiteBilling briefs on the Wasatch Front usually come in close to it.

Solution architects take more time, as does any brief that wants SuiteBilling, Advanced Revenue Management and SuiteScript in one person. Choose two.

Can NetSuite co-term an add-on to an existing subscription?

Yes, with SuiteBilling add-on lines prorated to the end date the subscription already has, although Oracle’s own documentation never uses the word co-term.

The Add-On Items feature has to be switched on, and the Prorate By setting can only be changed while the line is still in Draft, which is exactly the step a rushed rep skips. At renewal, Oracle says add-on items carry into the draft renewal at the same price and quantity. Get the first step right and the renewal mostly takes care of itself.

Is a mid-term upsell a new contract or a contract modification?

It depends on two tests, because under ASC 606 a change is a separate contract only when it adds distinct goods or services at a price reflecting their standalone selling price.

Fail either test and the change modifies the existing contract instead, which for a subscription usually means the remaining revenue is recognized differently from that date on. The answer belongs in a written policy applied the same way every time, not settled deal by deal by whoever happens to book the order.

Do we need SuiteBilling, or is Advanced Revenue Management enough?

Short answer, they do different jobs, with SuiteBilling deciding what to invoice and when and Advanced Revenue Management deciding what has been earned.

Plenty of Salt Lake City companies license revenue management first and bill from sales orders. That works, right up to the first mid-term change. Once add-ons and upgrades are routine, billing from a subscription stops being optional. Check what you already pay for before hiring around it, because a license and cost review sometimes finds the module sitting there unused.

Which NetSuite hire should a Silicon Slopes SaaS company make first?

Hire a functional consultant first when no one has written down how a subscription is allowed to change. An administrator comes next, to keep it that way.

Bring in a developer once renewals and the CRM sync start eating people’s evenings. Cleaning up the strays already on the books is its own line on the plan. It is always bigger than the first estimate.

Do you cover Lehi, Draper, Provo and Ogden?

KORE1 covers all four, along with Salt Lake City, Sandy, South Jordan, American Fork, Pleasant Grove, Orem, Murray and Layton, and none of them is a secondary market to us.

Thin local bench for one particular module? Remote is a fair option. Raise it on the first call so the search is built around it from day one.

Pick your biggest customer. How many renewal dates does it have?

More than one means work. Tell us how your subscriptions change and we’ll say which NetSuite seat closes the gap, with a first interview usually about 17 days out.
